Suspect in custody after officer-involved shooting, hours-long standoff in San Jose

A suspect police say fired at police and then barricaded himself inside a San Jose home has been taken into custody, police said Friday evening.

Just after 10 a.m. on Friday, police responded to a report of a family member with a handgun in the 2800 block of Barrow Ct. The suspect shot at officers upon arrival and at least one officer returned fire, police said.

The San Jose Police Department announced the standoff was over just before 8:30 p.m.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, suffered at least one gunshot wound and is being treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Family members said no one is in the house with him during the roughly 10 hours he spent with the home surrounded.

No officers were injured and no further information was immediately available. The San Jose police chief is expected to provide more details on Monday.
