Thousands celebrate Juneteenth with march and rally in Oakland

Thousands of people marched through the streets of Oakland on Friday to commemorate Juneteenth.

It first started at the Port of Oakland and then the crowd started moving through the downtown area.

The event is one of more than a dozen scheduled protests happening along the West Coast as longshore union workers unite to bring about social change.

A rally expected to follow at 1 p.m. at Frank Ogawa Plaza.
