UC Berkeley cutting 500 jobs; faculty members not affected

UC Berkeley administrators announced on Tuesday plans to cut 500 jobs in a cost-cutting measure.

The university is projecting a $150 million deficit this fiscal year.

UC Berkeley employs about 8,500 from custodians to administrators. The cuts will come over the next two years to help balance the university’s budget by 2020.

The school said faculty members will not be among those to lose their jobs.
