A million people are expected in the city this weekend. In addition to SF Pride, several other events are happening that are likely to keep first responders busy. In front of the Harvey Milk Plaza at Market Street and Castro, city leaders, including the chief of police, came out to discuss safety for this weekend’s events. 

As dozens of rainbow flags blew in the wind up and down the street, enthusiasm for Pride Month was evident all along Castro Street and throughout the neighborhood. Businesses, visitors, and residents are all getting ready for one of the biggest events of the year in the city. 

Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price on Tuesday addressed the violence that erupted at a Juneteenth festival in Oakland, which ended with more than a dozen people being shot.

A smaller than expected crowd showed up to Lakefest at Lake Merritt on Saturday.  This daytime summer festival emphasizes celebrating community, culture and Juneteenth.
