Bay Area organization raises awareness for mental health support

Hundreds of people will gather in Santa Rosa for an exciting fundraiser to help address a really serious issue. It is the annual High Heels for Hope benefit that will be benefiting the Zane Templin Foundation, along with a dinner, a live auction, as well as dance dancing. The foundation was started by the family of Zane Templin of Santa Rosa. He was just 24-years-old when he died by suicide in 2016. We hear from one of the guest speakers Mary Frances Walsh, the executive director at NAMI, Sonoma County. That's the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

St. Anthony's to host Annual Leading the Way Gala

The St. Anthony's Foundation will gather at City Hall this Friday to mark 75 years of helping those in need of food, medicine, housing and so much more. Since 1950, Saint Anthony's has been a beacon of light in the city's Tenderloin District. Over the years, the nonprofit has stepped up to meet the growing needs of the community, providing free clothing, medical services and support to those struggling with addiction. David Chavez, a recent graduate of the Saint Anthony Foundation Father Alfred Center and addiction treatment program for men joined us on The Four to talk about his experience.

Holo Holo Festival comes to San Jose

They're also studying the metaphysics of creepiness and what causes it. Doctor Michael Chemers, with the Center of Monster Studies at UC Santa Cruz joined us in studio to explain.

The American Cancer Society estimates that there are more than 3.8 million breast cancer survivors here in the U.S. And Marcelle Kozocas is one of them. She is the Bay Area woman who documented her experience from her treatment to her changing appearance as she went through recovery. Marcelle joined us in studio along with with the executive director of the Hers Foundation to talk about how she is helping other survivors.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has been busy signing a number of bills into law this week. One of those bills is being praised by supporters of medical aid in dying. It's called Senate Bill 403, and it was inspired by the story of Brittany Maynard, who became a national advocate for end of life choices ten years ago.

Report: Boys, young men at higher risk of suicide

An alarming number of young men and boys are dying by suicide, reports show. According to the "California Violent Death Reporting System," men between 15 and 44 years of age die by suicide three to four times more than women -- often by gun. September is national suicide prevention month.

Oakland is getting ready for the 18th Annual "Oaktoberfest" this weekend. The two-day event. takes over streets in the city's Dimond District, right at Fruitvale Avenue and Macarthur Boulevard.
