Oakland mayor announces bold rental assistance pilot program

Through the Shallow Subsidies program, 200 Oakland families will each get ongoing support averaging $750 a month, for up to 18 months, to reduce their rents by 50%, Mayor Libby Schaaf announced on Tuesday. The program is made possible by nonprofits and philanthropists.
