San Francisco declares public health emergency over monkeypox

Public health officials in San Francisco are declaring monkeypox a public health emergency, effective August 1. Mayor London Breed made the announcement Thursday. Cases continue to rise, disproportionately affecting gay Latinos and other men who have sex with men. The declaration is designed in part to address the lack of vaccines that are in high demand.
