'SafeCity Connect' brings 175 new cameras to Oakland to help combat crime

A community program aiming to deter crime in Oakland with the use of security cameras is getting improvements to streamline communication between businesses and police in real time during a crime. The Oakland Chamber of Commerce has hired retired Oakland Police Department Captain Ersie Joyner as a consultant for its SafeCity Connect program in the Downtown and Uptown areas. The program is a partnership of businesses and property owners to coordinate a network of individually-owned camera systems as part of a suite of public safety strategies to support local businesses and increase public safety.
