Fire danger escalates now through Monday
The tropical monsoon has arrived, with dry lightning threats, coastal flooding and a building inland heatwave impacting the region simultaneously. Highs today ranged from 64 in Pacifica to 94 in Fairfield. • The Storm Threat: Monsoonal moisture is advancing rapidly northward into the Bay Area. • Radar tracking mid-to-high-level tropical clouds and virga (rain completely evaporating before touching the ground). • The threat for dry lightning and gusty thunderstorm wind gusts is active tonight through Monday morning. • While the chance of a lightning strike remains low, any strike could easily spark a wildfire. • By Monday afternoon, a slight chance of actual wetting rain showers. Coastal Flood Advisory (Tonight – Thursday) • Sunday Forecast: Coast cool in the 60s, bayshore 70s, and the inland in the 80s to mid-90s. • Muggy Nights: The incoming tropical monsoon clouds will act like a giant greenhouse blanket tonight and tomorrow night. Overnight lows in the 60s away from the Coast.
