49ers 1989 preseason game in Japan
Back in 1989 the 49ers traveled to Japan to play in a preseason game vs the Rams in the Tokyo Dome. It was George Seifert’s first game as a head coach. The longtime assistant was replacing Bill Walsh, who retired after the 49ers’ victory over Cincinnati in Super Bowl XXIII. Once back in the U.S., Seifert led the 49ers to their second straight championship.
