National Weather Service issues Beach Hazards Statement for Bay Area shores amid sneaker wave, rip current risk

First responders are urging extra caution at local shores as the National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement effective Tuesday at 5 a.m. through Friday at 5 p.m. due to a dangerous combination of sneaker waves and strong rip currents. The challenging conditions, fueled by persistent southerly swells, pose a severe risk of knocking beachgoers over and pulling them out to sea.
