1 killed, 2 injured in San Jose accident Thursday

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU and wires) -- One person was killed and two others were injured when their car was rear-ended while sitting in traffic in East San Jose late Thursday afternoon, a police sergeant said.

Officers responded to a report of a crash at Piedmont Road and Rockport Avenue around 4:40 p.m., police Sgt. Enrique Garcia said.

Three people were in a car waiting in traffic and were rear-ended by another vehicle, Garcia said.

A passenger in the first car was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to Garcia. She was identified today as 54-year-old Divina Delacruz Valdez, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

The other two people in the car suffered minor injuries and one of them was also transported to a hospital for treatment, Garcia said.

The driver of the second car stayed at the scene, according to Garcia.

Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs was a factor in the crash, Garcia said.
