1-year-old girl dies in Concord drowning

On Thursday at about 8:06 p.m., Concord Police and Contra Costa fire personnel responded to a residence on Ridge Park Lane near Cowell Road for a medical call reporting a 13-month-old girl had fallen into a pool.

Officers and emergency personnel arrived and took over attempts to revive the unconscious child. She was rushed to a local hospital but did not survive.

A preliminary investigation into the incident established that at some point the toddler exited the house to the backyard and accidentally fell into the pool. The child was discovered in the pool by her mother, who was home at the time but had not realized the toddler had exited the house.

The mother immediately performed CPR on the child with the assistance of a neighbor. At this point in the investigation, authorities said the child's death appears to be a tragic accident.

Officers said with the summer months coming up, they hope this tragedy serves as a reminder to always watch children with a close eye.
