16 cars burned in Campbell carport fire
CAMPBELL, Calif. (Christien Kafton/KTVU) - A total of 16 cars were burned in a Campbell carport early Friday morning, and several of those vehicles were illegally parked in a fire lane.
Campbell Fire Battalion Chief Jason Falarski said the fire broke out at the complex on Bascom Road across the street from eBay headquarters about 3 a.m.
He's not sure what started it, but the the fire ended up jumping from car to car, including the ones that weren't supposed to be parked in a fire lane along a nearby fence. Car fires are extremely volatile, he said, as the chemicals and plastics inside the vehicles exacerbate the fire conditions.
No one was injured.
