2-alarm fire damages empty San Jose restaurant

SAN JOSE, Calif. (BCN) - A two-alarm fire burned at an empty restaurant in San Jose this morning, a fire spokesman said.
Firefighters responded to reports of smoking showing from Union Chinese Restaurant at 2615 Union Ave. shortly before 9 a.m., San Jose Fire Capt. Christopher Salcido said.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the one-story building's vents and flue system, Salcido said.
Firefighters entered the business after forcing their way through a locked front door and found the blaze inside the kitchen area, he said.
The fire was soon upgraded to a second alarm and was controlled shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to Salcido.
No injuries were reported.
The blaze didn't destroy the building's structure but left significant damage to the kitchen and moderate smoke damage throughout the building, Salcido said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
