2 officers shot , 2 suspects killed outside Monterey County Target store
SAND CITY, Calif. (KTVU) -- A shootout outside a Target store in Sand City Monday afternoon left two suspects dead and two police officers injured, according to authorities.
The incident happened in the parking lot of the Target in Sand City along Highway One just north of Monterey.
Police said the two officers spotted two men who had outstanding warrants sitting in a car.
A witness said the first shots were fired by one of the men in the car. One officer went down immediately.
The police returned fire and the two men were killed.
The two suspects have not been identified.
Seaside police, the California Highway Patrol, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office and other agencies responded to the scene, according to a police dispatcher.
According to police, both officers are expected to make a full recovery from their injuries.
