3-year-old boy shot in East Oakland with loaded gun found in home

A 3-year-old boy was shot in East Oakland Monday night with a loaded gun that was in his house and was in critical condition on Tuesday morning, police said. 

Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson told KTVU that the boy was shot inside a home  in the 10900 block of Robledo Drive. Later, she said the boy's father had been arrested.

She called the shooting an "unfortunate accident.

Police said someone took him to San Leandro hospital about 7:30 p.m., where he was then he was taken to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. 

Mayor Libby Schaaf said the entire ordeal is tragic.

“I hope everyone has this families in their prayers," Schaff said. "What a tragedy for a 3-year-old child to be hanging onto his life.”
