41 Bay Area students to share $70K in scholarships

Forty-one Bay Area students will share $70,000 in scholarship money Sunday, organizers of the 26th Annual Scholarship Awards Program "Celebrating Academic Achievement" said.

At 2 p.m. at the Sequoyah Country Club at 4550 Heafy Road in Oakland, the awards program's sponsor 100 Black Men of the Bay Area will give out the money. 

100 Black Men of the Bay Area is a chapter of 100 Black Men of America and aims to provide mentoring, education, economic empowerment and health and wellness to Bay Area students. 

The annual scholarship awards program was established in 1992 and has awarded $1.4 million to more than 600 students.
