4YO boy killed, two others hurt when car slams into Benicia crowd
BENICIA, Calif. (BCN) - A 4-year-old El Sobrante boy died and a 13-year-old boy was injured Sunday afternoon when they were struck by a vehicle at the Benicia Senior Center, police said.
Benicia police responded at 4:45 p.m. Sunday to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian in the parking lot of the senior center at 187 E. L St.
Life-saving measures were performed on the 4-year-old boy before he was taken to Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m. and has been identified by the Solano County coroner office as Mahady Qadir.
The 13-year-old boy suffered minor injuries in the collision.
Police said the boys were guests at a birthday celebration at the senior center. The preliminary investigation indicates a 12-year-old boy went into the vehicle to charge a cellphone.
The vehicle somehow suddenly went into reverse and struck the two children, according to police.
The 12-year-old boy who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident also suffered minor injuries. The collision remains under investigation, police said.
