911 calls released in case of Fulshear mother who fatally shot daughters
FULSHEAR (FOX 26) - During the deadly shooting incident in the Katy area Friday afternoon, several 911 phone calls were placed to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.
Two of the calls came from the daughters of Jason and Christy Sheats, Taylor and Madison.
At about 5 p.m. Friday, June 24, a deputy with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office and an officer from nearby Fulshear responded to a shooting incident in the 6000 block of Remson Hollow Lane in the Katy area.
They always seemed like they had the perfect life," said neighbor Austin Enke, shocked by the news Friday. "The mom was good. The Dad was good. You never hear anything bad about them. Then to see this happen, it's just mind blowing."
When the deputy and the officer arrived, they saw two females lying in the street and a woman who had a gun in her hand.
The Fulshear officer and deputy observed the woman shooting one of the girls in the street.
The woman, Christy Sheats, 42, did not obey the officer's demand to drop the handgun and the officer fired one shot, killing Sheats.
Investigators learned that prior to the incident, Christy, had convened a family meeting inside their home. Her husband, Jason, 45, and her daughters, Taylor, 22, and Madison, 17, joined Christy in their living room. During that meeting, Christy held up a gun and shot both girls.
Jason Sheats and both daughters managed to get out of the house by going through the front door. Madison collapsed and died. Jason ran to the end of the cul-de-sac.
Taylor ran into the street and Christy followed, shooting Taylor again. According to a witness, Christy went back inside the home to reload the gun. Christy returned and shot Taylor once more.
Taylor was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital - The Medical Center where she died.
"Right now all we can do is try to pray for the husband so he can work through this," said Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls at the shooting scene Friday.
Nehls' detectives have not stated a specific motive for what happened, but there's wide speculation of mental illness on the part of the 42 year old woman. On Christy's own Facebook page, she writes the 2014 death of her grandmother, her last living relative, devastated her life and the lives of her family.
Monday's new information also revealed the sheriff's department had made 14 calls to the home since January 2012. The county says a few were for burglar alarm issues, but that legal constraints keep them it explaining the reason for the other visits. The county sheriff's department also has not revealed who owned the murder weapon, a 5 shot 38 caliber handgun.
