An Alameda Police officer remained in the hospital Wednesday morning, following a crash with another vehicle late Tuesday night.

The collision occurred at about 10:30 p.m. at Lincoln Avenue and 5th Street, and pushed the patrol car into a utility pole.

Police told KTVU, that they believe a white Toyota Avalon was speeding eastbound on Lincoln, and broadsided the police car, which was headed northbound on 5th Street.

The officer was transported to Highland Hospital.

A police dispatcher told KTVU on Wednesday, that the officer was still at the hospital, but is expected to recover.
Investigators are not saying whether the Avalon driver may have been under the influence at the time of the crash.
