MARTINEZ, Calif. (BCN)— A Martinez high school is grieving the loss of a student who was found dead Sunday in unincorporated Contra Costa County.

Grief counselors have been active today at Alhambra High School at 150 E St. after the death of a freshman at the school, Andre Parrilla, according to Martinez Unified School District officials.

Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee confirmed that Parrilla was found dead Sunday but did not provide further details. Additional information is expected to be released later today.

In an effort to help pay for some of the family's costs, $1,855 had been raised as of 3:45 p.m. today through a website established in the memory of another deceased Martinez teen.

The website, Hersmile.org, is part of a nonprofit created after the death of 14-year-old Martinez Junior High School student Jenna Betti, who was tragically struck by a train in Martinez in 2014.

Parrilla went to the same junior high school. School district officials said grief counselors are available there as well as Morello Park Elementary School, another school he attended.
