Members of the Antioch High School Cross Country team take shelter dogs out while they train once a week.

The program is called the Panther Tails program and it pairs the Antioch Animal Shelter dogs with the cross country team.

Trine Gallegos with Antioch Animal Services said on Facebook, "Students are loving the pups; dogs are getting fresh air and exercise; and adoption may increase."

Antioch Police chief Allan Cantando and Principal Louie Rochie spearheaded the program.

Gallegos continues to say it is "community engagement at its best".
