Antioch police searching for 3 young men who beat 61-year-old woman

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KTVU) - Antioch police are looking for three young men ranging from 17 to 20 years old who beat a 61-year-old woman Tuesday morning. Police say the motive in this case is still unknown.

Alberto Maldonado, the executive director of The Commons at Dallas Ranch, an assisted-living center, where the attack occurred outside, described the beating as savage and senseless.

“It was essentially done for no reason,” said Maldonado. The facility on Dallas Ranch Road is a community of elderly and those who suffer memory loss. He said the woman was exiting her car to visit her ailing mother. That’s when the three approached her just after 10 a.m.

Maldonado said they asked the woman for directions and then one circled her and followed up with a physical assault on her. The attack included punches to her head, but oddly enough the attackers didn’t take anything from the victim who was left face down on the parking lot ground.

Mike Stanton, a friend of the victim, said she is suffering multiple injuries in the hospital, including a fractured pelvis

“She’s going to go through trying to get over being afraid for however long it takes.”

Security guards now patrol the area 24-hours a day and surveillance cameras are coming soon. In addition, the staff is expected to receive pepper spray and safety training.

As for the residents who are the most vulnerable, Maldonado said they should enforce using a “buddy system” where they come out with another resident.

“It’s just brutal and said and it’s not necessary. I don’t understand it,” Stanton said.
