Arson suspect arrested for Chinatown fire

San Francisco police officers arrested 56-year-old San Francisco resident Michael De Vito on Thursday in connection to an arson in Chinatown.

The arson occurred on the 700 block of Pacific Avenue and  was set in a doorway of a commercial building during the overnight hours of October 19th to October 20th, 2016.

De Vito was taken into custody on the 1400 block of California Street.

The Arson Task Force investigated the fire and had probable cause to arrest De Vito, according to police. The suspect was booked into San Francisco County Jail for setting fire to a building, possession of flammable material with intent to set a building on fire, as well as a probation violation.

Investigators are working to determine if there are any connections between De Vito and several other recent arsons in the Chinatown and North Beach neighborhoods.
