At least 8 arrested in San Jose raids

A major intersection is closed because of heavy police activity in San Jose on Thursday morning.

Parts of Capitol Avenue and Alum Rock Avenue are shut down.

At this point, it remains unclear what happened in what appears to be a raid.

At least eight people were detained by San Jose police.

There are unconfirmed reports that the police activity may be related to an illegal casino raid.

At this point, additional details have not been released.

Last month, concerned about a trend of escalating violence in and around Vietnamese cafes and bar, local and federal authorities launched a series of raids targeting illegal gambling operations at many of those establishments, authorities said.

San Jose Police spokeswoman Sgt. Heather Randol said 85 to 100 illegal gambling machines were seized during the raids, but no arrests were made. She said the investigation was ongoing and arrests may take place in the future.

It's unclear if the raids that occurred in March are related to Thursday's raid.
