Attempted burglary suspect caught trying to break into Rohnert Park home

An attempted burglary at a Rohnert Park home was thwarted Friday afternoon when a resident called police about someone trying to break into a neighbor's home.

A man was spotted knocking on the door of a home in the 6600 block of Meadow Pines Drive.

When nobody answered, he reportedly went around to the backyard and tried to enter the home through a sliding glass door, Rohnert Park police said.

The neighbor had called police and an officer arrived to find the suspect near the home.

Police chased him about a quarter-mile before taking him into custody.

The suspect, Sergio Heredia-Trujillo, 26, of Rohnert Park, was wanted on an outstanding probation violation warrant and was on probation for felony vandalism.

The witness identified Heredia-Trujillo as the suspect seen trying to get into the home.

The residents there didn't know him, and he had no reason to be there, police said.

Heredia-Trujillo was arrested on suspicion of attempted residential burglary, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, prowling, and his probation hold.
