Two people suspected of burglarizing an auto dealership and stealing cars are believed to be responsible for a causing two separate collisions on Interstate Highway 880 early this morning, according to a Fremont police spokeswoman.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night police received a phone call from an employee at an auto dealership in the 4300 block of Peralta Boulevard for a report of a burglary and vehicle theft, according to police spokeswoman
Geneva Bosques.

According to the employee, two suspects had gained entry into the dealership's office and took all the keys to the vehicles, along with one car from the dealership's lot, Bosques said.

When officers responded, they were unable to locate the suspect and left the scene.

However, around 2 a.m. this morning, police again received a call from an employee at the dealership, saying the suspects had returned and took another car from the dealership, according to Bosques.

The employee then told police they were following the two suspects, who were each in separate cars taken from the dealership, onto northbound Highway 880 from Thornton Avenue, Bosques said.

Shortly afterward, a collision involving one of the stolen vehicles and multiple other vehicles was reported on the highway, near Decoto Road. In that collision, a vehicle reportedly flipped over and at least one
person was trapped inside.

Moments later, a second collision was reported on the highway near Tennyson Road.

It was not immediately clear the extent the injuries suffered by the drivers involved in the two collisions.

At least one person was detained following the second collision, however, it was not clear if the person was arrested.

Police were unable to reach the employee who initially called to report the burglary and who then allegedly followed the suspects onto the freeway, according to Bosques.
