More BART police means more arrests

BART released new numbers on its crackdown on crime. A total of 726 arrests were made on trains and at BART stations in 2023, up 62 percent from the year before.

OAKLAND, Calif. - BART released new numbers for its crackdown on crime.

A total of 726 arrests were made on trains and at BART stations in 2023, up 62 percent from the year before.

Also, 49 illegal guns were confiscated, the highest number in a single year since 2003.

BART has made big investments in its police force to address several safety concerns and the decline in ridership.
