BART rail service resumes after pedestrian struck by train

BART rail service resumed Thursday morning after a mid-morning accident in which a person was struck by a train in Hayward this morning, authorities said.

Authorities said the service was restored shortly after 11 a.m. following the accident, which occurred between the Hayward and South Hayward stations around 10:15 a.m., BART spokeswoman Denisse Gonzalez said.

The condition of that person was not immediately available.

BART service is stopped between Hayward and Union City, causing major delays on the Fremont line, Gonzalez said. Service along other lines is unaffected.

Bus service is available via Alameda-Contra Costa Transit bus No. 99.

The incident was under investigation. It was not immediately clear how the accident occurred or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
