Battling stage 3 cancer, woman competes for title of Miss California
LONG BEACH, Calif. (FOX 11, KTVU) - More than 100 women from across California gathered in Long Beach over the weekend to compete for the Miss California USA crown.
One of the contestants took the stage as she fought to win another type of battle-- colon cancer.
27-year-old Andrea Andrade was diagnosed 8 months ago.
She has stage three colon cancer, and doctors have given her six months to two years to live.
On Sunday, Andrade, who calls herself a fighter, was not crowned Miss California USA.
But she won in another way as she pushed aside the obstacles before her with hopes to live out her childhood dream.
Fox reporter Susan Hirasuna has more on her story.
