Berkeley police investigating homicide, suspect allegedly fires into crowd

BERKELEY, Calif. (KTVU) - Berkeley Police Department are investigating a homicide Thursday night that happened on the 1800 block of Fairview Street.
According to police, multiple 911 calls came in at 7:32 p.m. of gunshots in the area of Fairview and Adeline streets.
Responding officers were informed of a male victim down who had suffered gunshot wounds. They were said to have attempted to provide medical aid, as the fire department was brought in. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say initial reports indicate a small group of men and women were standing at the corner of Harper and Fairview when they were approached by an adult male suspect. After some kind of verbal exchange, the suspect fired multiple rounds from his handgun into the group.
That's when the victim was struck and the rest in the crowd was said to have fled.
The suspect is outstanding.
Police say the 1800 block of Fairview Street between Adeline and Ellis Streets is closed to all traffic. Harper Street between Woolsey and Fairview Streets is also closed as this is an ongoing investigation.
