Big rig driver dies in San Rafael, roads still slick with rain

The driver of a big rig has died in San Rafael on slick wet roads late Wednesday night.

The California Highway Patrol has not yet confirmed whether rain had anything to do with the accident on Highway 101 near North San Pedro Road, but the wet weather was still present early Thursday morning.

The CHP said the rig slammed into the center divide and caught fire. A Sig-Alert was issued about 10:35 p.m. and was lifted at 3:30 a.m. A crew was expected to come out later Thursday morning to repair the damage.

Then, just about 5 a.m., there was a separate two-vehicle collision in the same area.
