Big rig overturns in Altamont Pass, spills 41,000 lbs. of glass

The California Highway Patrol has issued a Sig Alert for eastbound I-580 just west of Grant Line Road after a big rig overturned in the number 4 lane.

The big rig spilled 41,000 pounds of glass at around 2:45 p.m. Thursday according to CHP. 

The Alameda County Fire Department said the big rig was carrying empty wine bottles.  The driver was not injured. 

Caltrans is responding with a loader and a dump truck. The mess is expected to take up to two hours to clean up.
