Blind dachshund and guide dog friend adopted together

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A blind dachshund and the pit bull that serves as his guide were adopted together over the weekend.
The pair were briefly split during a messy adoption, then re-united at a shelter while they waited to find a forever home together.
Six-year-old Blue Dozer, the pit bull, and 12-year-old dachshund OJ were surrendered April 20 at a Richmond, Virginia, shelter after their owner became homeless. The shelter posted on Facebook that the pair needed to be adopted together because OJ needs Blue Dozer to guide him.
"These dogs have taken us on a roller coaster ride of emotion and turmoil and yet remained steadfast in their love for each other and their ability to adapt and overcome vexing circumstances," Richmond Animal Care and Control posted on its Facebook page.
On June 2, the shelter announced that "a wonderful family" had adopted the two dogs.
"We hope that their story helped showcase the work that we do at RACC and the commitment we have to each animal in our care.," the shelter wrote. "So many people (from across the world) have reached out to us in support and encouragement-thank you!"
