BRENTWOOD (BCN)— Brentwood police announced on Friday a new canine has been added to the department's patrol division, a job that means a major change of environs for the Czechoslovakian pooch.

The canine, named Tzak, is an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois. It was imported from Czechoslovakia by Menlo Park-based Witmer-Tyson Imports, a company that breeds, trains and sells German Shepherd dogs, the company's website says.

Tzak's handler is Officer Nicholas Shipilov, who recently completed a certification course for patrol work with the dog and will soon attend a narcotics certification course, police said.

The addition allows Brentwood police to have a canine unit available all week, according to police.
