Caltrain strikes person on tracks near 22nd Street station
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) - Caltrain tracks have reopened in both directions and full service has resumed following a death near the 22nd Street station Friday afternoon, according to Caltrain officials.
A southbound train struck a man on the tracks at about 4:17 p.m. near the 22nd Street station in San Francisco, Caltrain officials said.
The collision initially closed the tracks in both directions, causing major delays for passengers.
Muni provided a bus bridge between the Bayshore and San Francisco stations and BART accepted Caltrain tickets between the San Francisco and Millbrae stations.
As of 5:40 p.m. both tracks had reopened and the Muni bus bridge was canceled. BART is still assisting Caltrain passengers.
The cause of the collision has not been determined, but Caltrain officials noted that the majority of such deaths are ultimately found to be suicides.
Friday's death is the 16th on the Caltrain tracks this year.
