Caltrans demolishes another section of original Bay Bridge
OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Caltrans demolished another pier from the eastern span of the old Bay Bridge late Saturday morning as a part of an ongoing program.
Crews were out just two weeks ago demolishing pier E-5.
Caltrans works with environmental experts to protect marine animals in the implosions. From the surface, most of what you can see is a curtain of bubbles to contain the blast, and a splash of water as the explosives go off.
CHP was controlling traffic on the bridge as the crews worked.
The new bike lane on the south side of the bridge will be closed all of Friday- out of an abundance of caution.
Next year, six more foundations are due for demolition and seven more in 2018.
