A 19-year-old man apparently fell asleep behind the wheel, and crashed his car through a backyard fence, and into a pool in Santa Clara, said police.

The car ended up submerged in the pool at a home on Warburton Avenue and Calabazas Boulevard.

Santa Clara Police received a car about a traffic accident, just before 3 a.m., according to authorities.

When first responders arrived, they found the 19-year-old man out of the pool, soaking wet.

He was uninjured, and able to get out of the car.

Investigators said he alone in the car, and apparently was driving home.

Firefighters and a tow service were called to the scene, but after reassessing the situation, authorities were worried that bringing the car up too quickly, could damage the pool.

Officials said they would wait to bring in a construction crane to lift the car out, after daybreak.

Police told KTVU, they had not yet cited the driver, but he could face driving infraction charges.

Santa Clara Police said the homeowners may not even know about the car into their pool, as they were not home at the time, and officers were still trying to reach them.
