Charges filed in killing of off-duty Oakland firefighter
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office has filed murder and attempted murder charges against the 27-year-old suspect accused of shooting and killing an off-duty Oakland firefighter and injuring another on Thursday.
Oliver Juinio, 27, is being held without bail in the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
San Jose police say he was arrested a short time after Thursday night's shooting, which occurred in the 300 block of East Taylor Street in the San Jose Japantown.
The shooting claimed the life of 30-year-old Jake Walter. His 26-year-old colleague was injured. He is expected to survive.
The Oakland Firefighter's International Fire Fighters Local 55 union said on Twitter that at least five firefighters had been out in San Jose when the shooting happened and described it as "unprovoked."
The firefighters who were on the scene and were not injured rendered aid to the two victims, union officials said.
