CHP investigating death of motorcyclist on Hwy 101 this afternoon

A motorcyclist died on U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to a report of a person on the road on northbound Highway 101 near North First Street around 2:15 p.m., CHP officials said.
   
Initial reports suggest the collision occurred when the motorcycle rider, who was traveling south, they crossed over to the northbound side of the freeway, according to the CHP.
   
A Sig-alert was issued at 2:46 p.m. closing two northbound lanes and there is currently no estimated time for when the roadway will reopen, CHP officials said.
