CHP rescues dog from East Bay freeway

RICHMOND, Calif. (KTVU) -- The California Highway Patrol responded to an unusual call on Sunday.

A dog was running loose on westbound Interstate 80 near San Pablo Avenue in Richmond around 11:30 am.

The dog was hit by a vehicle and then hid under an AC Transit bus that was blocking the fast lane.

It took approximately 20 minutes for officers to coax the wounded dog out from under the bus.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian in Berkeley.

Some children riding the AC Transit bus snapped the photo above, and named the dog 'Journey.'
