Concord boy returns home after falling from second story apartment

CONCORD (BCN) -  An 11-month old boy who fell from the second story of a Concord apartment complex onto hard pavement Tuesday has returned home from the hospital, police said Friday.

Around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a two-story apartment complex in the 1600 block of Frisbie Court, where a small child had fallen. Police believe he crawled through a gap between two bars in the guardrail.

The child, who was conscious when officers arrived, was taken by helicopter to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Police said he suffered a concussion, but the baby boy has gotten clearance to return home.

"It's a good sign," Concord police Cpl. Chris Blakely said. The railing that he likely fell through has been boarded up as a safety precaution, Blakely said.

The property owner at the apartment is still working with a team from the Concord Building Division to ensure that the complex was safe, city officials said Friday.
