Creek Fire containment in Alameda County now at 75 percent contained

The Creek Fire currently burning near the Sunol Regional Wilderness in unincorporated Alameda County has burned at least 30 acres, is now 75 percent contained, according to Cal Fire officials.

The fire started Saturday night around 8 p.m. near the designated wilderness area, fire officials said. The blaze is located near the east end of Welch Creek Road near Apperson Ridge just outside the Sunol Regional Wilderness.

The fire is in an area of grassland and shrubs, where a few homes sit in hilly country.

Officials said they did have some evacuations "for a while," but those evacuated returned home last night.

As of 5 a.m. today, there are no injuries and no structures have been damaged. Fire crews are expected to battle the blaze throughout the day today.
