Alameda County sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday began looking for a 71-year-old Tracy fisherman believed to have fallen into the Delta Mendota Canal while fishing.

Sgt. Ray Kelly said the man was supposed to have come home late Monday but never did. He regularly fishes at this canal.

Kelly said the man's family went to the canal on Grant Line and Mountain House Road early Tuesday and found his car in a parking lot but no sign of him. His tackle box was there, but no fishing pole.

Deputies believe he somehow fell into the canal.

The California Highway Patrol and the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department are assisting the sheriff’s office.
