Deadly Palo Alto police shooting

 PALO ALTO, Calif. (KTVU) -- Investigators are looking into a deadly police shooting Christmas night in Palo Alto.

Police received a call at 9:16 p.m. Friday, about a person wanting to hurt someone, at a home on Forest Avenue, between Middlefield Road and Webster Street.

Officers say when they arrived on scene, a male suspect armed with a knife, charged at them.

Police fearing for their lives, opened fire.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"We're always concerned about an officer-involved shooting, both to obviously the threat to our officers, as well as we take seriously the safety of the community." said Sgt. James Reifschneider, Palo Alto Police Department. "So we take all of these very seriously, and that's why we're being so thorough and why we work with the district attorney's office."

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's office and Palo Alto Police are conducting parallel investigations into the shooting

No officer was injured in this incident.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.
