Dramatic video shows SFPD take down robbers targeting tourists

Video shows undercover officers stepping in when three men tried to rob a group of tourists. 

The attempted robbery took place Saturday at 1 p.m. in the 1000 block of Filbert Street of Russian Hill near Lombard Street. 

Police sources tell KTVU's Heather Holmes undercover officers were monitoring a vehicle in connection with street robberies.

Surveillance video shows the car back up as the suspects waited for the tourists. The suspects then got out of the car and demanded bags and purses from three women. One of the women ran, screaming for help. The other two stayed and fought to try to keep their backpack and camera. The officers stepped in and took down the suspects.

Police arrested the three suspects. Two of the suspects were twenty years old while the third was 19. 

Police say Kordell Jamal Carter of Santa Rosa was charged with robbery, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, firearms charges. He was also booked on a felony burglary warrant from Marin County.

Pravin Kevin Lal of Marin City was charged with robbery, conspiracy, possession of stolen property and firearms charges.

Lamar Akeli Fontenot of Antioch was charged with robbery, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, possession of a burglary tool and firearms charges.

A loaded handgun was recovered at the scene along with the backpack and camera.

The handgun had been reported stolen in Louisiana.

The victims sustained minor injuries.
