The driver of a big-rig that crashed Friday morning just before 9:00 on westbound interstate 80 at University Avenue has died, according to CHP.

Following front left tire failure, the truck crossed over lanes into the center median and collided with the concrete barrier. The driver was ejected and evidence suggest he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The collision caused the trailer to separate from the tractor, blocking lanes 1,2 and 3, while the tractor continued approximately 50 yards before coming to a stop in the number 1 lane.

The driver was transported to the hospital where he died. No other injuries were reported.

A Sig-alert was issued and lanes westbound lanes were closed until approximately 1:00 p.m.
