Drug dealer who crashed stolen BMW gets 8 years in prison

ANTIOCH, Calif. (AP) - A San Francisco Bay Area drug dealer who crashed a stolen BMW loaded with methamphetamine while fleeing police in the wrong direction on a highway has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 34-year-old Ricky Keith Barnette was sentenced Friday for possession with intent to distribute meth. He pleaded guilty in November.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/2mztJRm ) that as part of his plea deal, Barnette also admitted that last January he was driving a stolen BMW in Antioch while in possession of more than 167 grams of meth and a stolen, loaded 9mm pistol.

When police tried to pull him over, Barnette sped west on a highway's eastbound lanes and collided with another car, severely injuring the other driver.
