Dungeness crab season begins

The recreational Dungeness crab season is now underway in California.

Toxic domoic algae continues to be a big problem along the entire west coast but that has not stopped recreational crabbing from starting across the state,

The State Department of Health says that high levels of the toxin are being found in many crabs in the northern part of California.

However, as of the end of September there are no signs of toxin in crabs around the Bay Area.

Commercial crabbing season is set to open in two weeks.
